Potting Shed behind a General Purpose Greenhouse

The “All-Cedar” Potting Shed
The Potting Shed is a traditional addition to the greenhouse to provide an area alongside the greenhouse for potting plants and for storage. With a Potting Shed Tools and fertilisers can be stored and used adjacent to the greenhouse, they can be kept dry and yet not be far from where they are needed.
A separate Potting Shed is essential as tools that are stored in the moist atmosphere of a greenhouse can soon rust and any hygroscopic garden chemicals such as many of the fertilizers will be spoilt if they become moist. The reverse would also be the case as plants kept in the Potting Shed would be deprived of light and moisture. A dry atmosphere for tools would stop plants from growing.
The Potting Shed illustrated here is specially designed to fit to either end of our Sectional greenhouses with a door between Potting Shed and Greenhouse. The Potting Shed can be 6ft or 8ft long and attached to our 6ft, 7ft or 8ft wide greenhouses.
The Potting Shed is complete with a potting bench along one side in front of the window and the other side is boarded to the eaves. One of the windows opens to provide ventilation when required. The boarded end includes a small window over the door and the door is stoutly constructed of traditional ledged and braced design.
All our Garden buildings are individually made by craftsmen. This Potting Shed like our greenhouses is constructed entirely of Western Red Cedar and is supplied in sections for ease of assembly. The roof is of cedar shingles on a stout timber framework. (Other roofing options are available) Cedar shingles have a long maintenance-free life and will slowly weather to blend in with the garden. Western Red Cedar is ideal for Greenhouse and Potting Shed construction being very durable and long lasting yet requiring the minimum of maintenance.

Potting Benches
A small Potting bench that will fit onto the staging is useful in the Potting Shed and in the Greenhouse. It keeps potting compost contained during potting operations. It can be made with deeper bottom runners to raise the level of the work surface to avoid bending. When the job is finished the Potting Bench can be put away to leave the bench clear and clean.

The Langton Summer House

Summer Houses
A garden is designed to be enjoyed and a Summer House in the garden gives you somewhere sheltered to sit and reflect upon your plants. Setting a building into a design needs to be done with care. Our Summer Houses are individually made to order and the design can be tailored to meet your exact requirements. For some gardens a shady nook may be the ideal spot for others a sunny site. The Summer House could be sited to make the best of a distant view or in front of a pond or water feature to give a tranquil outlook.
For some the Summer House will be a winter retreat to sit out of the weather while others will make more use in the spring and autumn.
The setting will influence the design but in most gardens the Summer House will form part of the garden landscape so it needs to be attractive. All of our Summer Houses are made by craftsmen working in Western Red Cedar. We can offer and infinite variety of design alternatives that are variations on three basic themes. The footprint of the Summer House can be a hexagonal shape or a rectangle or square. The roof can come to an apex, be ridged or slope to the back (pent roof) depending on the base form. The roof can be finished in Western Red Cedar shingles or felt as required. The sides can be fully glazed or variously boarded. Boarded sides restrict the view but give more privacy.

The Wendy House that grows up
In a garden where space is limited it may be tempting to combine the role of the Summer House with a building for winter storage. Our "Wendy House" is designed to combine the role of a child's playhouse with the benefits of a Summer House. The building has been designed in a dual role by having an interchangeable front. The two fronts convert the building from a child's "Wendy House" into a traditional Summer House by changing the front panel. The Wendy House has sufficient insulation and floor space that it could be used for overnight visitors in the summer, somewhere the children can call their own.
